In recent years the Bumbo floor seat has seen a surge in popularity, however, there’s a new kid in town – the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up.
In this bumbo seat vs sit me up post we look at the pros and cons of each to decide which is the best floor seat for little one.
We’ve also spoken to parents who’ve also used both to get their feedback.
Bumbo Seat vs Sit Me Up
As you might have read when we looked into when do babies sit up post, it can often take a while before baby has developed enough strength in their neck and shoulders before they’re sitting up on their own and even then, he or she is likely to be very wobbly!
That’s where a floor seat like the Bumbo or Sit Me Up come in!
Over the past couple of years, these two have been the main choice for many parents with fans loyal to both products.
We’ve reviewed both products separately in the past and today it’s finally time to put them head to head in a Bumbo Seat vs Sit Me Up showdown!
Both of these seats have strengths and weaknesses and really it comes down to individual preference and which you think will work best for your family.
Bumbo
The Bumbo was the first floor seat that we tried, in fact it was bought for me and my partner when we were expecting our first child so we’ve had A LOT of hands on experience with this one!
…and it wasn’t for us!
While we’ll try to stick to the facts below what we did find was that our little one was simply too squished when we put her in the chair to be comfortable.
That said, we have family and friends who LOVE the Bumbo chair, however it’s fair to say that their little ones have less chunky legs than ours!
.
Pros
- Easy storage
- Easy to take with you when visiting family
- The tray is a great feature for when baby is feeding and playing
- Easy to keep clean
Cons
- Support could be better
- Leg holes could be bigger – my one and only real complaint.
- Doesn’t give baby much freedom in sitting position
Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat
For me, the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up is currently the best seat on the market that gives baby support while they sit.
Speaking to many parents (and conducting a quick pole in the office) it would appear that many other parents would be in agreement.
Rather than squashing baby into a fixed position it encourages baby to sit more naturally and gives them more space to move.
There’s also the issue of chubby legs. While the Bumbo can feel like a squeeze, the Sit Me Up allows more room for babies legs.
As you’re about to find out, there’s a lot to like about the Sit-Me-Up compared to the Bumbo.
.
Pros
- More natural sitting position
- Higher back support
- More room for chunkier legs
- Machine washable cover
- Ability to attach toys
Cons
- No tray (although there is a version that does ship with one)
- Doesn’t store as well as the Bumble
The Bottom Line
The Bumble seat has long been a favorite of many parents and don’t get us wrong, it’s a great product.
However, if you little one has chubbier legs or you want to encourage a more natural sitting position then you’ll certainly want to consider the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up.
Ultimately in the Bumbo seat vs sit me up showdown, the winner will really depend on whether or not you’re going to be taking the seat with you while you travel and if space is at a premium in your household.
